Forage Establishment Insurance Plan

The Crop Insurance Plan for Forage Establishment provides protection against establishment failure caused by designated perils during the first year of growth for forages, grasses, and legumes. The below information is intended to be a quick reference only. Coverage:
This plan provides protection from a wide range of insurable perils that can impact your forage grasses and legumes. These perils include:

  • Winter Kill
  • Drought
  • Frost
  • Wind
  • Excess Rainfall
  • Insect Infestation
  • Plant Disease
  • Flood (marshes, dykes required)
  • Wildfire

You can apply for forage establishment insurance any time after the day seeding is completed, right up until October 15.

The final seeding date for legumes or a legume/grass mix is July 1. For grasses, the final seeding date is September 1. Insurance protection begins on the day that your application is accepted and remains in force until May 31 in the following spring.

Destroyed or Abandoned Benefit:
When at least 2 acres have been destroyed, or abandoned, a benefit is payable by multiplying the total number of destroyed acres by the client's selected unit price.

Not Destroyed or Abandoned Benefit:
When at least 2 acres have been damaged, but the total crop has not been destroyed, or abandoned, a benefit is payable by multiplying the total number of damaged acres by 50% of the client's selected unit price.
